In Character Information
Name: Atsuro Kihara
Series: Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor
Canon Standing: Last Day, Silent Revolution, as Babel reveals its true face.
Age: 17
Birthday & Astrology Sign: January 15th, Capricorn
Arcana: The Emperor

Personality:
Here we go! Atsuro is the quintessential tech geek. Where other kids had fun playing outside or going shopping or whatever it is that kids do, Atsuro cheerfully spent all of his free time fiddling around on his computer and on the Internet all day. He doesn't find anything wrong with it - To him, it's as natural to breathe as it is to check his email, chat on messenger programs, and frequent forums. This is a direct result of his upbringing, or rather, lack thereof. His parents worked overseas, leaving him with a caretaker until they deemed him old enough to care for himself. Having so much free time and nothing to spend it on, Atsuro turned to the magic of the World Wide Web to provide him with the company and friendship that any child seeks. As a result, Atsuro and computers became irrevocably intertwined.

This is not to say that Atsuro has no social skills, however. As a matter of fact, out of all the characters in Devil Survivor, the player gets to see the most of his social life – He's best friends with Yuzu and the MC, happens to be the Number One Apprentice of Naoya the Legendary Super Hacker, was childhood friends with Keisuke, was a former student of Mari's, and is distantly acquainted with the gang leader, Nikaido, or at the very least, knows of his reputation where the others don't. Atsuro's behavior is also quite typical for a teenager's. He laughs and jokes around a good deal, uses common vernacular, and is generally an all-around well-adjusted and fun guy. He just happens to have exceptionally nerdy pursuits, like spending entire weekends playing games or being unable to spend ten minutes without succumbing to the urge to check in on his favorite programming forums. Around strangers, he presents a friendly and amiable face. Even under the stress of the lockdown, Atsuro rarely displays a hostile or unapproachable demeanor, though he understandably sinks into a melancholy at times.

Concerning his attitude towards his friends, his most obvious trait is his extreme loyalty, believing in them no matter what they’ve done or are planning to do. He trusts in the MC's decisions no matter what, regardless of whether he decides to become the Chosen Prophet of God or the Evil Demon Lord; indeed, he’s the only character who sticks with the MC through every path. Despite Keisuke’s actions that may be construed as murder, he urges the party to save him from Kaido, insisting that he was a good person and had simply made some wrong choices. And even though Naoya plainly admits to creating the chaos of the demon invasion in the first play, Atsuro still trusts in him, saying even on the last day that Naoya wouldn’t let them down. Perhaps this is a reflection on his younger days, when he was more socially withdrawn. He may have found it difficult to make friends as a child and as a result, clings to his close friends no matter what they may do. This is not necessarily a great trait – loyalty aside, people need to be reprimanded for their bad behavior, but for better or for worse, making a friend out of Atsuro is making a friend for life. Atsuro also has the tendency to tease and joke a little too much, going too far as in the case of Yuzu’s despised nickname (Yoohoo). He never seems to realize it until he's called out, but it’s always done in a friendly spirit, not to be deliberately malicious.

As a result of his hobbies and inherent interests, Atsuro probably keeps the most upbeat outlook of the main characters throughout the trials they face, with the obvious exception of Dolly. While Yuzu is panicking and screaming constantly, Atsuro is generally the one trying to reassure the others that everything will be alright, though he does need to turn to the MC for reassurance himself. This is never stated, but I would expect that he finds it at least mildly exciting for the chance to live out the games he likes to play so much. Despite this, he remains, of course, extremely anxious about what’s going on. He just does a better job of coping with it. It may not be too much of a stretch to say that this results from his parents basically leaving him to raise himself. As a result of being neglected, Atsuro has become a competent young man who can manage, even in a life and death situation, to be reliable.

Finally, a discussion of Atsuro must end by examining the path that he chooses to take at the end of the lockdown if given a choice: the Silent Revolution. Shin Megami Tensei games are generally focused on the struggle between Law and Chaos; while the Devil Survivor side-stories aren’t so clearly divided in their outcomes, it’s safe to call Amane’s Kingdom of Saints path that of Law, while Naoya’s King of Demons path is Chaos. Atsuro’s falls in between, in the realm of Neutral, with some shades of Law. Essentially, Atsuro chooses to place the control of demons into the hands of mankind. He believes in man’s potential for good and believes that the introduction of demons to the world could be positive. Rather than banishing the demons altogether, he wishes to harness their power to surpass mankind’s technology limits like a third Industrial or Information Revolution. And he succeeds! The ending shows that Japan becomes a major world power due to their domination of demons. Atsuro’s optimism and belief in the good of man shows no bounds here – his choice is unimaginable, changing the path of humanity irrevocably. Not being thoughtless or short-sighted, Atsuro considers all the options carefully and in the end, decides that this path is one on which man can triumph. On the flip side, this shows a strong belief in the necessity of dominance and control, and this is the reason as to why I picked the Arcana of Emperor for him. Atsuro essentially chooses to enslave sentient beings for the good of man; moreover, he places this power in the hands of only a very small number of humans – the leaders of Japan, essentially granting them dominance over the rest of the world.

Backstory:
http://megamitensei.wikia.com/wiki/Devil_Survivor

This wiki link covers the events of the game. As for backstory prior to the game, I’ve mostly covered it in the Personality section. Atsuro’s parents worked in Silicon Valley and essentially left him to grow up by himself, meaning that he spent a lot of time on the Internet. At some point, he was introduced to the MC and his cousin, Naoya, and began receiving lessons from Naoya on computer hacking. He considers himself Naoya’s apprentice and also the MC and Yuzu’s best friend. During the events of the lockdown, after seeing everything that’s going on, Atsuro comes to the decision that the best solution is to gain control of the demons for the good of mankind and pleads with MC to go along with his path. Regardless of what the MC decides to do, Atsuro will stick with him through thick and thin.

Canon Powers:
http://megamitensei.wikia.com/wiki/List_of_Devil_Survivor_Overclocked_Skills

Everything is conveniently sorted into Persona elements! Force is equivalent to Wind, Elec is equivalent to Lightning, Phys is equivalent to Strike, and let’s say Recovery, Support, and Curse are Dark. Passive and Auto skills don’t require elements because they exist for the purpose of calculating resistances/weaknesses, I think.  Since we are only allowed to bring in one Almighty skill with our characters, and Atsuro canonically has seven, I will keep Holy Strike as his Almighty skill, and I'd like to change Holy Dance to Light, Gigajama to Mind, and Drain and Dreamfest to Dark.  Megido and Megidolaon will be unused.

This is quite a large number of skills. In canon, the limits are that only three Active, three Passive, and one Auto Skill may be equipped at a time and are unchangeable during a battle. If you’d like me to impose a more severe limit (only three Active, three Passive, and one Auto can come with him springs to mind), let me know, and I will change it!

Canon Weapons|Items:
Atsuro has no canon weapon besides his fists, but it might be worth mentioning that he comes with a Harmonizer program. Essentially, this is the in-game explanation for why humans do not get immediately killed just by being tapped by a demon or set on fire with Agi; it ‘harmonizes’ their power levels.

Canon Allies:
I might be misunderstanding, but if Atsuro is allowed to, he’d like to bring in the following six demons from his world:
Kabuso | Race: Beast | Level: 2
Shiisaa | Race: Avatar | Level: 19
Power | Race: Divine | Level: 26
Badb Catha | Race: Avian | Level: 34
Laksmi | Race: Megami | Level: 48
Seiten Taisei | Race: Genma| Level: 53

Kabuso:

Weakness: Elec
Resist: Fire, Mind
Command Abilities: Agi (Fire), Zan (Wind)
Racial Ability: Animal Leg (increased mobility, general swiftness in battle)

Shiisaa:
Weakness: Fire
Resist: Mind
Absorb: Elec
Command Abilities: Power Hit (Strike), Mazio (Elec)
Passive Abilities: Revenge (counterattack chance, Strike)
Racial Abiliity: Switch (the ability to switch places with an ally)

Power:

Weakness: Mind
Resist: Elec
Command Abilities: Mighty Hit (Strike), Recarm (Mind)
Racial Ability: Blood Wine (restoration of MP at the cost of health, probably won't be relevant to this RP)

Badb Catha:
Weakness: Mind, Wind
Resist: Strike
Command Abilities: Might Call (Mind)
Passive Abilities: Extra One (increased attack speed), Life Aid (increased health)
Racial Ability: Flight (limited teleportation, about 15 feet)

Laskmi:
Reflect: Mind
Weakness: Fire
Command Abilities: Mediarahan (Mind), Samarecarm (Mind)
Passive Abilities: Mana Surge (increased MP, probably not relevant to this RP)
Racial Ability: Affection (Mind, group recovery spell)

Seiten Taisei:

Null: Strike
Reflect: Mind
Command Ability: Hassohappa (Strike)
Racial Ability: Phantasma (limited teleportation, the space of a few steps; increased mobility)

I should note that Atsuro can only summon two at a time. Additionally, if he's knocked out, his demons will automatically unsummon themselves. Most of the skills are in the Persona verse already, but if there's any that are unclear, they can be found in the Devil Survivor skill list as well.

Canon Baggage:
Laptop computer, (nonfunctional) cell-phone, COMP from the Devil Survivor world (ie: glorified Nintendo DS), television, console game systems of mysterious Pintendo make.

Ultimate Persona
[BABEL]
EMPEROR
-As a note, this is the final boss of Devil Survivor. It acts as the server through which demons are summoned into Atsuro’s world throughout the game, as well as the final Bel in the competition to become King of the Bels. I’d like to request Babel as Atsuro’s ultimate Persona because he hacks and controls the server in his bid to place the demons under the control of humans in his ending. This ending is reflective of Atsuro’s desire to lead humanity towards greater heights through the domination of the demons. Babel will lose its demon controlling functions when acting as Atsuro’s Persona, of course. If it isn’t clear how Babel is related to Enki, Enki functions as the Judaic God in the Sumerian parallel of the Tower of Babel story, confusing the languages of the world. If this isn’t acceptable, let me know and I’ll work something else out!

1st Person Example
Aw, man.

[Atsuro’s face appears in the network with a sigh.]

Doesn’t anyone else miss the ‘net? My fingers keep trying to fill in my favorite sites before I remember the whole ‘other world’ thing. Don’t get me wrong; this place is great. A big step up from the lockdown, but I’d like to get my life back to normal eventually, too.

…So, hey! If you’re wondering why I’m moaning about it to you all, I’ve got a proposition to make! Let’s start up our own sites! We’re allowed to do that, right? I’ve taken a look at some of the code their network runs on, and it looks like it’s a mesh of some pretty basic compilation languages with a few deviatiations that I’m still working on. Shouldn’t be too much trouble, and if it is, I think we can still get some kind of file-sharing network up at the least – Swap our favorite books or movies, if you got a computer with you. You guys game?

3rd Person Example
“And here he comes; our latest challenger! The, uh. The…”

“Aw, c’mon, just say it.”

“…The Emperor of Awesomesauce.”

“Here we go!”

The boy with the floppy hat makes his television debut by performing what can be generously described as a cross between a jumping split and a somersault (read: he trips when he tries to pose) before he recovers and thrusts forward an arm. As he sees the screens broadcasting his overly cheerful grin for all to see, his smile only widens. It had been a few months since being transported from the final day of the lockdown into this strange world so simultaneously similar and far-removed from the Japan he knew and loved. Seven days of intense emotional duress and the worst living conditions he’d ever gone through in his life had passed; this was practically a relaxing mountain spa getaway in comparison.

And what a vacation it was! The lockdown had been, if he had to admit, terrifying. Never mind the threat of demons literally wrecking the world; the every-day living situation of demons threatening to wreck him was bad enough. As far as adventures go, being told that he was fated to die in seven days wasn’t exactly something he wanted to get behind. At a basic level, it was fantastic – summoning demons, becoming a tamer, helping his best friend destroy the strongest demons in existence and maybe even becoming their ruler… But the cost was too much to bear. Deaths, every day, right before his eyes. It hadn’t been a game; he had realized that quickly.

Hinoto-Ri? This was more like it. Not that people didn’t die; the threat of the demons was still very tangible. But the whole circumstances, just everything about it – there was no fighting for your life, no thought that the government might press a button whenever they wanted to and zap! There goes all of Tokyo. It was serious, it was dire, but… more than he almost cared to admit, it was exciting. Growing up to become a salaryman had never been something he relished, and the world of computers and games was one he knew was nothing more than an escapist fantasy. Hinoto-Ri, quite literally, was his fantasy come to life. Yes, he could die, but right now, right here, he was summoning up the true representation of his soul in the form of an ancient Sumerian creator god to do battle on an arena televised to an entire city watching his every move.

And if that wasn’t awesome, he didn’t know what was.

Atsuro Kihara stops trying to strike a pose long enough to slip his Evoker out from his pocket. He raises it to his head.
